It's so uneducated and shallow, typical for modern magic crowd. There is no "energy" or "will" in traditional western magic. Magic of the west, and its ancestor: middle east, is based on manipulation of hidden properties of things in nature. Actions of this magic are objective and unquantifiable instead of taking place in the mind by medium of some energy.

Patrick, as always I am delighted to read about your insights into the intersection of philosophy and contemporary occultism. I am especially intrigued by your thoughts on the intentionality of magical practice.

Of late, I've been delving into Kirkegaard's account of religious existentialism, especially his notion that perceptions inevitably confront the observer with the choice of interpretation. As a devotee of Hecate, I find this emphasis upon choice dovetails rather nicely with the imagery of the crossroads. At the risk of identifying an unjustified point of commonality, I find myself wondering whether the practice of magic in some sense rests with our capacity for interpretation. We interpret our world as magical, and thereby we acknowledge and honor what is magical within ourselves.

Still, if by the nature of our existence we are forced to interpret our world, then magic cannot exist in the interpretation alone, since such could potentially include some very "non-magical" readings of physical phenomena. I wonder if the intentionality of which you speak, in which the Magician implicitly recognizes both an unseen world and human agency within this world, would then become the basis for magical practice - indeed, the basis for living magically.

Blessed Be!

Of course, some quantum physics experiments have since proved that the Law of Contagion is true!
