Lupa

Lupa is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in counseling psychology with an emphasis on ecopsychology. She is a ritual tool artist, a neoshamanic practitioner, and a geek (though not of the computer variety). She lives in Portland, Oregon, and is the author of several books on totemism, shamanism and related topics, including Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone, A Field Guide to Otherkin, and Talking About the Elephant, among others. When she isn’t putting in internship hours, making things out of dead things, or destroying keyboards with heavy-handed typing, she enjoys typical Pacific Northwest pursuits such as hiking, gardening, camping, reading, and hanging out in 24-hour coffee houses.

Lupa has been practicing animal magic and other forms of neopagan spirituality since the mid-1990s. She has developed her own personal shamanic path, which she calls Therioshamanism. She has spent many years blazing her own trail, creating new paths where others had feared to tread previously. Now those paths exist for others to follow.

— Animal Totem Card Readings

Rather than using a traditional tarot deck, Lupa developed a directional/ elemental spread that uses five cards with the Animal-Wise deck by Ted Andrews. Each card represents a different area of the querent’s life. The totems that come up are tertiary totems — totems you can approach to ask for help with issues and endeavors in those aspects of your life. (This is as opposed to a primary totem, which are life totems that stay with you throughout your life.) Lupa has been working with animal totems for over a decade, with consistently good results.

As mentioned, this is not a reading to tell you what your primary totem is! The number of animals in the deck is very limited, so if your primary totem is not one of those animals, you wouldn’t get a correct reading. Additionally, you’re better off doing the work of finding your primary totem on your own, so there won’t be the potential issue of someone else’s interpretation mucking up the results. While tertiary totems are general, and you can choose from any of a number of tertiary totems for help with a specific issue, your primary totem is quite personal, and you’re better off working without any intermediaries.

You may request a reading for a specific situation, or a more generalized reading which will highlight whatever the totems think may need the most work. The standard five-card spread will cover all five areas of your life:

  • Earth (physical concerns)
  • Air (mental, learning)
  • Fire (change)
  • Water (emotions)
  • Spirit (spirituality)

Another option is to choose a single card reading for any one of these individual areas of your life.

Lupa’s rate is $1 per minute.
