(I employed the term "militancy" as opposed to "fanaticism", yet I think the overall thrust of my arguments matches your own pretty closely.) Nevertheless, I will not argue with your admittedly more direct critique of what I think we can agree remains the single greatest danger for otherwise genuine belief. Methinks the Discordians are essentially right: Much of human suffering comes from people taking themselves far too seriously. Oh, and don't despair. If your Christian friend happens to be correct, you'll not want for good conversation.
