Terms of Service

Legal mumbo jumbo

Last revision 29 March 2014 to add guarantees and disclaimers.

The Rending the Veil website, forums (when they exist; they come and go), resources, Practitioners, Services and community tools featured herein are brought to you by Sheta Kaey for Rending the Veil. This website is intended as a business (sole proprietorship) and a service to the esoteric community. The following additional Terms of Service will apply to your use of the Services, Site, and any resources offered herein. Your continued use of the Services constitutes your binding acceptance of the Terms of Service, Rending the Veil‘s Privacy Policy, our Practitioner Rules, Payment Policy, any other policies existing, and any modifications made thereto.

Okay, So Let’s Cut The Sh!t.

I don’t know about you, but to me “legalese” is just a way to cover one’s ass, a bunch of tl;dr mumbo-jumbo with the seller’s interests squarely at heart, written by some shady lawyer seeking a way to trip up the unwary while twirling his handlebar mustache and cackling evilly. (sigh. Only Megamind does that now.) I It rambles endlessly on, seeking to eliminate loopholes, without ever really saying much that the average viewer can understand. I hate it, and on this site, where we talk about all sorts of things most people consider make-believe, I expect you to be well versed in reading between the lines and discerning truth from bullshit. So I’ve attempted to shorten this page as much as I could, in favor of brevity and actual clarity. (There are still a couple of paragraphs of pure legalese; I can only do away with so much.) In lieu of the long, ridiculous version that used to be here, here’s my to-the-point version in the same bullet style:

  1. General Rules for On-Site Interaction
  2. Paid Services
  3. Guarantees
  4. Disclaimers
  5. Practitioner Rules
  6. Payment Policy
  7. Appointment and Leftover Time Policies
  8. Guidelines and Rules for Channeling Familiar Spirits (Also on a separate page; addendum to ToS when practitioners were added to the site in 2012.)
  1. General Rules for On-Site Interaction

    1. The Main Thing — When you get into trouble, it goes like this:
      1. We warn you. If it’s a minor infraction that rarely occurs, you might get several warnings. If it’s truly offensive and happens immediately again upon warning #1, you might get two before swift action is taken. It really depends on the situation.
      2. We put you on moderated status, so you can’t comment without moderator approval.
      3. We ban you from commenting.
      4. We suspend your account.
      5. We ban you from the site.
      6. We ban your IP from the site and notify your ISP.
      7. We take legal action.
    2. Etiquette — Be courteous. Flame with tact. Attack the issue, not the person.

    3. Offensive material — No bashing on race, religion, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, disability, nationality, belief system, or preferred gender. No linking to bashing or to illegal content. No posting porn. Specifically:
      1. Libel & Hate Speech — No text promoting hate or libelous text, including racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, or paradigm bashing. This includes, but is not limited to, calling things “gay” or “retarded” as a synonym for “stupid,” or using offensive slang terms or slurs.
      2. Profanity — Reasonable use of profanity is fine, unless it is used as a personal attack.
      3. Trolling — A reasonable amount of trolling is also fine, unless it creates constant disruption and/or extreme discomfort, or violates the ToS.
    4. Disruptive Behavior — Behavior that disrupts the Service for other users is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to —
      1. Messages or topic titles that force browsers to scroll horizontally
      2. Blank, empty, or single word messages, such as responding only with “LOL!”, and posts that consist only of emoticons
      3. Posting two or more identical or similar messages/topics in an effort to gain more views
      4. Deliberately hard to read titles or posts, e.g., ALL CAPS; AlTeRnAtE cApS; no spaces; no punctuation; two or more consecutive periods, question marks or exclamation points; leetspeak or excessive chat speak
      5. Post counts (e.g. “First comment!” etc.)
      6. Nonsensical messages
      7. Posting large ASCII art (except in social topics specifically calling for it)
      8. Common sense clause: Use a spell check, and don’t be an idiot unless you’re prepared to get called on it.
      9. Additional Notes on the Disruptive Rule

      10. Malware — Extra-harsh penalties will be applied for posting any link that infects another computer with malware, trojans, viruses, or anything that disrupts the individual’s control over their computer.
      11. Off-Topic Posts The main purpose of the message boards is to provide discussion forums and opportunities for magicians, witches, occultists, pagans, et al, to socialize and get to know each other and various practices. Topicality is expected and will be enforced on all message boards not noted as purely social in nature.
      12. Plot Spoilers — Warn people when your post contains spoilers.
      13. Flooding, Invading, and Board Wars — Flooding a board with disruptive topics or comments is prohibited. If you want to conduct paradigm wars or order wars, we’ll create a board specifically for that.
      14. Impersonation — Impersonating other users by creating and/or using a user account with a name clearly intended to impersonate, mock, or antagonize another user is strictly prohibited. (For example, one member of a board long ago and far away used the name “CloneMirror” to mock user “StoneMirror.” Don’t do it.)
      15. Harassment, Stalking, and Privacy — Continual harassing behavior directed towards a particular individual or group with the intent of creating an offensive, intimidating, or otherwise hostile environment, with or without explicit or implicit threats, is A REALLY FUCKING BAD IDEA. Capiche? Posting someone else’s contact or other private information is grounds for banning, and is a REALLY FUCKING BAD IDEA. XD Sorry, I have this coughing thing…
    5. Spam — Spammers will be banned immediately. Anyone posting off-topic spam will be banned without warning. Users are permitted to link to their personally maintained websites, shops, or forums in their forum signature, and to provide one link per site per month and in reply to a relevant query only. You want to know why? Because We Are Not Stupid. Now go away.

      Exceptions are listed below.

      1. These links are NOT okay, Ever!
        1. Commercial or personal web site advertisements for items or sites that do not focus on occult topics.
        2. Repeatedly linking to the same site or page for purposes of personal gain.
        3. Linking, for personal gain, to any site you do not maintain yourself.
        4. Make Money Online (MMO) sites, including Search Engine Optimization (SEO) links.
        5. Chain letters and pyramid schemes, anything intending to incite an emotional response in the viewer for no purpose other than to deliberately fuck with their serenity.
        6. Any referrer-ID based sites.
      2. These links are Okay* — *These links are permitted a) once a month, and b) in signatures and c) if posted in tandem with relevant content, in response to a relevant query.
        1. Personal, non-commercial website addresses
        2. Requests for comments on personal sites or social networking sites
        3. Interesting or relevant link to another site or sites that are not for personal gain
        4. Personally maintained, off site page(s) that lists links to their other services
        5. Links to one’s personally maintained shop or Etsy page
        6. Links to one’s relevant eBay auctions.
    6. Illegal Activity — Communications that violate or incite others to violate the law are not permitted. This includes illegal copies of copyrighted software; methods of circumventing copyright protection; illegal copies of copyrighted music, movies, videos, or any other type of media; reprints of material from web sites or text sources; or any sort of plagiarism.

    7. Content — We reserve the right to remove, at any time and without notice, any content from the Service. We are not required to explain ourselves to your satisfaction, though we’ll do our best to provide a reason for the removal, if possible. There may be times when we cannot divulge our reasons.

    8. Registration — In order to post messages on the forums (when they exist), view restricted forums, and use other advanced services, you must register using a valid e-mail address and follow all required registration confirmation procedures. No posting privileges will be granted until the account is fully activated.
      1. Age restrictions — You must be at least 13 years old to register for the Service. We do not knowingly collect any information from any users under 13 years of age, and if we discover that an underage user has fraudulently registered, his or her account will immediately be terminated.
    9. Termination of account — We reserve the right to immediately terminate or suspend anyone who fails to abide by these rules or the other policies in this Terms of Service. Efforts to resolve the problem or issue with the user will be exhausted before we resort to this level of final action. While we will listen to all who would like to be heard, the decision to suspend or terminate accounts will be made at the sole discretion of the Site administrators.
      1. Appeals — Members will be given a reasonable opportunity to appeal via private, off-site communication with administrators. Once the appeal process is over, our decision is final. At that point, all bans will be permanent and irrevocable, until some future time when the offender can demonstrate compelling evidence that he or she should be readmitted.
    10. Sole access — Your membership to this Site and its forums is intended for your personal and individual use only. You may not share, transfer, sub-let, license, abdicate, gift, sell, or otherwise extend your membership and its privileges to anyone other than yourself.

    11. Password protection — Users are solely responsible for protecting their accounts from unauthorized access. You are strongly encouraged to select a hard to guess password and to not use that password on any other site. Accessing or attempting to access any user account not belonging to you without permission is prohibited. Accessing another user’s account is grounds for a permanent ban from the Site.

    12. Multiple Accounts — While it is acceptable for users to maintain multiple accounts, we can and do track all accounts used on the same computer(s) and consider them one account for the purpose of monitoring violations of the Terms of Service. If one account from your IP is terminated, all accounts from your IP may be terminated.

    13. Violations and Penalties — Admins may delete topics and messages that violate the Terms of Service from the boards. Re-posting deleted violations is considered a violation.

      1. Administrative Action — Messages and topics may be moved or removed at any time and for any reason at the sole discretion of administrators and their designated moderators. User accounts may be warned, suspended, or revoked at any time and for any reason at the sole discretion of administrators. All determinations of what is “acceptable” and “unacceptable” content will be determined solely by administrators and moderators.

      2. Harassment — Intentional, repeated, or severe violations are cause for the termination of your account, banishment from all use of the boards of your IP address or even your entire ISP. In such event, we also reserve the right to contact your ISP concerning your activities.

    14. Contact & Your Privacy — We may contact you via e-mail or postal mail to provide you with information about the Service, your account, or to provide you with information about Site-related special offers available only to Service subscribers. We will not share your information with any third parties unless under subpoena. You may contact us via email at admin@rendingtheveil.com or by postal mail at: Rending the Veil, attn: Sheta Kaey, 260A Oakland Avenue, Baytown, Texas, 77510-1139, USA Phone (281) 624-9650.

    15. No Warranty; Limitation of Liability — The Service, any software we may provide for the purpose of interacting with the Service (the “Software”) and all related documentation are being provided to you “as is” and without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the functions contained in the Software or on Service will meet your requirements. We do not warrant that the Service or the Software will be uninterrupted, error free or free of viruses or other harmful components. We are not responsible for content posted by our users or the opinions of our contributors. No oral or written information or advice given by us or any of our authorized representatives shall create a warranty or in any way increase the scope of this warranty. The above exclusions will not apply in any jurisdiction that does not allow the exclusion of implied warranties.

    16. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, NEGLIGENCE, SHALL Rending the Veil OR ANY PARTNER OF Rending the Veil THAT MAY BE INVOLVED IN THE DISTRIBUTION OR PROVISION OF THE SOFTWARE OR THE SERVICE, OR ANY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, DIRECTORS, AGENTS, LICENSEES, SUBLICENSES OR ASSIGNS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES THAT RESULT FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, THE SOFTWARE OR RELATED DOCUMENTATION, EVEN IF SUCH PARTIES HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THOSE DAMAGES. THE ABOVE EXCLUSIONS WILL NOT APPLY IN ANY JURISDICTION THAT DOES NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL DAMAGES, LOSSES, AND CAUSES OF ACTION (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE) EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE OR SERVICE FOR THE TIME PERIOD AFFECTED.

    Paid Services

    1. Eligibility to use the paid Site Services is limited.

The paid Site Services are available only to persons who are at least eighteen (18) years old and are otherwise capable of forming legally binding contracts under applicable law. This includes freedom from any real or implied legal prohibitions in your home or current country for the use of psychic or esoteric services.

    2. You use the paid services and consult with Practitioners at your own risk.

Rending the Veil cannot verify, guarantee or make any representations regarding the accuracy of psychic readings, the belief systems of Practitioners or Clients, or the identity or qualification of any Practitioner or Client. We do strive to screen our Practitioners and ensure quality work, but we are not responsible for any issue a Client may have with a Practitioner or Rending the Veil’s practices. Rending the Veil does not make editorial or managerial decisions concerning content, sexually explicit or otherwise.

Rending the Veil is not responsible for use or exchange of any information, files or goods between Practitioners and Clients. It is recommended that you exercise caution and common sense when exchanging contact or other personal information, and as much as possible use the admin address (admin@rendingtheveil.com) for official contact in which you must include personal or contact information. If you ever believe that a Practitioner or Client has violated the law or is defrauding, threatening or endangering anyone, we urge you immediately to contact the police directly for help. We do not recommend meeting strangers in person under any circumstances, and any personal contact you have with other members of the Site is your personal responsibility.

      1. Feedback — Rending the Veil assumes no responsibility for monitoring Client feedback. If you wish to leave feedback for a Practitioner, it is recommended you comment on either their profile pages or the page of their appropriate service.
    3. Guarantees and Restrictions We want your experience with our practitioners to further your progress toward your magical and spiritual goals. If you are for any reason dissatisfied with the practitioner you selected or that practitioner’s paid services, contact Admin at admin@rendingtheveil.com or Sheta directly at sheta@rendingtheveil.com; we will do everything in our power to rectify and resolve the situation to your satisfaction. You always have the option to leave feedback at the practitioner’s profile or on the page about the particular service that you purchased. If there is no way to resolve a dissatisfying situation, we will offer you a replacement session with a different practitioner, following the usual free consultation . . . and another, and another, up to three (3), until you hopefully find the practitioner match you’ve been seeking.

Rending the Veil does not guarantee any information, entertainment services or other products or services provided by our Practitioners. You must use your personal judgment to determine whether to initiate and/or discontinue use of a Practitioner’s services. In accordance with our Privacy Policy, we do not monitor telephone conversations between members, nor do we monitor or archive/store the chat conversations that occur in Google Hangouts/Talk, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, et al. If you desire a transcript, it is recommended you set your chat settings to save chat archives, or to make other arrangements to preserve the transcript as it occurs.

      1. Disclaimers — (1.) a. Be aware that advice given by any reader or any spirit channeled via a practitioner of this site does not, and is not intended to, supersede, augment, or replace medical or professional advice. We are not doctors, we don’t diagnose, and while spirits may have a higher view, the message is by necessity limited by the medium and his/her capacity to relay that message accurately. If you have a medical or mental health issue, please consult a professional. b. Entrapment of a reader, for example stating afterward that you don’t believe in “tarot/spirit/psychic woowoo bullshit,” and so we must be “charlatans,” is absolutely prohibited. You will forfeit your deposit and you will subject yourself to the mercy of that practitioner’s wrath. Just the thought of it makes me suggest once again that you might be better off with a mental health professional. c. Any statement, suggestion, advice, or any other form of direct or indirect communication that occurs between a practitioner and a client, a practitioner and another practitioner, or a practitioner and a critic is their personal or collective opinion, and Rending the Veil is not responsible for these opinions or their means of expression. If abuse occurs from a practitioner or staff member in an environment we can investigate, write us at the above address to tell us about it. If the practitioner or staff member is in violation of our Terms of Service, he or she may be dismissed or face other dreaded tortures reserved only for the Damned. (2.) Channeling your spirit companion is a service that accompanies, not replaces, spirit contact instruction and spirit associated counseling. Your SC is welcome to assist in counseling, but if all you require is a medium, there are hundreds to be found online who’d be happy to serve you. If you insist that Sheta (for ex.) Must Be the One(*tantrum*), you’re asking her to perform something she feels is not her calling, so you’ll notice a significant increase in price for that service. (3) a. We strive to provide value to occultists of all skill levels. If we fail to achieve this, please feel free to make a suggestion or join as a volunteer and make the changes you’d like to see. b. We have done our best to accurately represent our services, service providers, practitioners, contractors, employees, content, and products, and their potential to aid your progress on your spiritual path if you apply yourself. You are the master of your own growth, and whereas we will offer the best assistance we can and will make every effort to exceed your expectations, you are fully responsible for your progress, and the quality of the results will depend on the quality of your own work. c. We offer no warranties or guarantees regarding your results, or regarding the differences in individual style or content that each instructor/practitioner may bring to the table. Some programs will have additional applicable limitations, specifically a set of assignments that must be completed and turned in before refunds will be made. This is to ascertain that the client actually did the work and is not merely regretting a purchase he never used. (4) When arranging a first meeting with a practitioner, a free consultation is required to break the ice and ensure a good match. You will feel secure that the practitioner will be able to meet your needs, or you have the option of choosing someone else for another free consultation, and so forth, til you absolutely adore your practitioner. (5) Any statements outlined on our web pages, or in our programs, content, offerings, or private communication between members and staff are, again, opinions, and thus are not guarantees or promises of actual proof; if we could prove the existence of any metaphysical being, place, or event, we’d collect from the Amazing Randi. We offer no professional legal, medical, psychological, or financial advice and your participation in this program indicates that you assert you are of sound mind and of legal age/in legal location to involve yourself in occult activities.

      2. Disputes — If you have a dispute with another member, or suffer any harm arising out of or connected with any of the paid services, you hereby waive all claims against and release Rending the Veil and Sheta Kaey from any and all liability for claims, demands, damages (actual and consequential), costs and expenses (including litigation costs and attorneys’ fees) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way connected with any Rending the Veil co-op paid services or with regard to such disputes. If you are a California resident, you waive your rights under California Civil Code §1542, which states, “A general release does not extend to claims which the creditor does not know or suspect to exist in his favor at the time of executing the release, which if known by him must have materially affected his settlement with the debtor.” Residents of other states and nations waive their rights under analogous laws, statutes or regulations.

    4. Rending the Veil may modify these terms, or suspend or terminate your use of the Site, at any time without notice to you. However, we will strive to notify you when there are changes in these terms, as often as we remember.

      1. We reserve the right in our sole discretion to modify or discontinue the Site or its paid Services, or modify the terms and conditions of your use of the Site and Services, without notice. All modified terms and conditions will be effective ten (10) days after they are initially posted on the Site. Changes to the Payment Policy are effective after Rending the Veil provides its Practitioners with at least fourteen (14) days notice of the changes via email. If your email address is not current and the email bounces, new policies will nevertheless be effective on the same date. If any modification is not acceptable to you, you may state your case and try to effect change, or you may leave the Site. The final decision rests with Rending the Veil.

    5. The services are facilitated but not policed:

Rending the Veil acts only as an interface to facilitate communications between Practitioners and Clients. As a Practitioner, you are not an employee, agent, or contractor of Rending the Veil, and you shall not represent that you are any of the foregoing. You are solely responsible for all equipment necessary to access and use the Site and paid Services, and for reporting and payment of all taxes associated with fees transferred to you by Rending the Veil.

    6. You are solely responsible for all use made of the Site and paid Services and agree to pay for all Services purchased using the links provided on the Site. You agree not to indulge any Practitioner offering to meet offsite in order to bypass fees charged by Rending the Veil.

      1. The rates for Practitioner services are as set forth in the applicable Practitioner listing.
      2. You agree to maintain the confidentiality of your password and account information and to supervise activities that occur under your user name and password, including, but not limited to, any and all usage of the Site by other persons under your user name and password.
      3. You agree that Rending the Veil is not responsible for any loss that you may incur as a result of any unauthorized person using your user account or password. You agree that Rending the Veil may use information provided by you as described in the Privacy Policy.
      4. Based on account use and other factors identified by Rending the Veil in its sole discretion, we may require verification of your credit, identity and/or other background information in order for you to continue using the Site or paid Services. In such event, you agree to provide us with additional information that may be requested, you consent to our disclosure of your personal information to third-party service providers in order to verify your credit, identity and/or other background information.

    7. In using or accessing the Site or its paid Services, you agree to comply with the following:

      1. You (as a Practitioner providing paid services) are solely responsible for the content provided and the content on profiles, pages, or posts created under your user name or on your account.
      2. You (as a Client receiving paid services) will not record or otherwise store any live or pre-recorded voice paid services that you receive through the Site, except as agreed upon by the Practitioner. If you meet on Skype or other IM service using voice, be sure to ask permission before recording, then record the permission again at the start of your recording. You (as a Practitioner providing paid services) will not record or otherwise store any calls you conduct with a Client.
      3. You will not use the Site or Services for any purpose that is unlawful, fraudulent or contrary to the Terms of Service and the other policies of Rending the Veil, and you will cooperate fully with Rending the Veil to investigate any suspected unlawful, fraudulent or improper activity.
      4. You will not solicit or provide advice, directly or through writings, as to the value of securities or as to the advisability of investing in, purchasing or selling securities or any report or analysis concerning securities.
      5. You will arrange all for-fee communications that you have with other members only through the Site, and you will not circumvent or attempt to circumvent the Site using third-party payment services.
      6. You will not use the Site in any manner that harasses another member or could interfere with any other party’s use or enjoyment of the Site. You will respect the privacy of others and not use the Site for unwelcome, rude or abusive communications.
      7. You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to any member’s account information, computer systems or networks associated with the Site.
      8. You will not attempt to obtain any information or materials relating to the Site through any means not intentionally made available through the Site.
      9. You will not “frame,” “mirror” or otherwise copy any portion of the Site without Rending the Veil’s or the author’s express written authorization.
      10. You will continue to provide true, accurate and complete payment registration information and will maintain as current and promptly update your personal contact information that you provide to us, as applicable. You will not use false identities or impersonate any other person or use a name that you are not authorized to use.
      11. You will not use the Site to solicit members, to promote any product or services other than the information services described in your listings, which are provided through the Site, to provide any product or services related to, claiming success with or offering information regarding lottery numbers or for purposes of multi-level marketing proposals.
      12. You will not take any actions which may undermine the testimonial system, including without limitation leaving positive feedback for yourself or other Practitioners, using “sock puppets,” or leaving negative feedback if a Practitioner fails to perform some action that is outside the scope of the services described in his or her description of services.
      13. You will not create obscene, offensive, tasteless, defamatory or hateful user names or content in comments, testimonials, or on the forums.

      15. You will not encourage or instruct any other individual to do any of the foregoing or to violate any Terms of Service or other Site policies.

    8. If you act as a Practitioner, you will comply with and be subject to Practitioner Policy and Payment Policy.

    9. Rending the Veil prohibits the unauthorized use of copyrighted materials and trademarks.

    10. Links to Other Websites.

The Site may provide links to websites other than Rending the Veil. Such links are provided for reference only, and we neither control such websites nor endorse any of the material on any such websites or any association with their operators.

    11. Relationship of the Parties.

Notwithstanding any provision hereof, for all purposes of these Terms of Service each party shall be independent and act independently and not as a contractor, partner, agent, employee or employer of the other and shall not bind nor attempt to bind the other to any contract.

    12. You consent to the use of (a) electronic means to complete this agreement, to use the Site and Services, and to provide you with any notices given pursuant to these Terms, and (b) electronic records to store information related to your membership or your use of the Site or Services.

    13. Miscellaneous.

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remaining provisions shall be enforced. Our failure to act with respect to a breach by you or others does not waive our right to act with respect to subsequent or similar breaches.

Examples include your Etsy page, deviantArt, and other creative ventures.

    7. Rending the Veil owns and retains all rights in or to certain trademarks, trade names, service marks, logos and/or slogans, whether now existing or hereafter created, including but not limited to Rending the Veil and “The first step to expanding your reality is to discard the tendency to exclude things from possibility” (collectively, “Trademarks”).

    Payment Policy

    1. Rending the Veil‘s payment responsibilities for paid Services you provide are subject to restrictions and limitations. The Client who initiates a Transaction (any agreement to receive services in exchange for payment) with a Practitioner through the Site is solely responsible for payment of any and all fees for the Transaction. Rending the Veil shall not be obligated to pay any Service or Practitioner fees for which Rending the Veil has not been fully paid by the Client or Client’s credit card issuer, bank, or other payment method as applicable. You hereby authorize Rending the Veil to collect payments from Clients on your behalf for any and all Transactions that you conduct via the Site. Rending the Veil will credit to your PayPal account the fees collected by Rending the Veil less Rending the Veil‘s commissions set forth below, any tax withholdings required by law, and any refunds, discounts, chargebacks and chargeback fees payable by Rending the Veil.

      1. Rending the Veil collects your fees based on the per-session or per-reading prices you have listed. Direct your clients to the Pay Instantly page if they wish to buy more time or extend their reading. Once they’ve paid for extra minutes or extended readings (at the time of service), they must forward their confirmation email to you to verify payment if you do not receive the funds to your PayPal account within a few moments. Do NOT take their word for it.
      2. We remove our 25% commission, and forward the rest to your PayPal account within 72 hours.
      3. If the Client wishes to send funds directly to your PayPal account, you will need to send us 25% within 72 hours of receipt of funds.
      4. We do not, unlike other psychic sites, require you to have a minimum amount on account before we forward payment. Payment will be forwarded immediately upon being processed by Rending the Veil staff. This may take up to 1-3 business days after the transaction itself, though likely will arrive within moments.

    2. Special Programs.

Rending the Veil may, at its option, invite you to participate as a Practitioner in special offerings that may include promotional pricing, qualifications verification and/or targeted promotion. You have no obligation to accept such invitations; however, if you do accept such an invitation, you agree to be bound by the terms set forth in the invitation in addition to these Terms of Service.

    3. Advisor Fee Remittance.

Rending the Veil may withhold taxes from amounts issued to Practitioners as required by law, such as applicable state and local sales tax.
      2. Rending the Veil reserves the right to institute a chargeback policy as we deem appropriate. Rending the Veil reserves the right to withhold issuing payment for your fees without notice on any transaction which suggests that the Client or Client’s bank may not fulfill his or her payment obligation. Rending the Veil reserves the right to hold funds beyond the normal distribution periods for transactions it deems suspicious to ensure integrity of the funds.
      3. Rending the Veil reserves the right to close a member account at any time without reason, including, but not limited to, a violation of this Payment Policy, upon notice to the Practitioner and payment to the Practitioner of any unrestricted funds held in custody.

    Appointment and Leftover Time Policies

    1. Appointments and Leftover TimeRending the Veil fields all appointments via admin@rendingtheveil.com or affiliated email addresses, or via the “Book Now!” appointment buttons. Select your practitioner and the service you require (or Free Consultation if you have not yet met). Once an appointment time is set, a deposit is requested immediately, typically 25 to 30%. You must give 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment or you forfeit your deposit. Email us or your practitioner to reschedule. If you wish to extend your chat time or upgrade your Service, you can go to our Pay Instantly page. If prepaid time remains at the close of your session, you may choose between a credit on account with that Practitioner, or you may contact admin to select a new Practitioner (with associated potential rate change) or request a refund for the unused minutes. If you do not contact admin, we have no way of knowing of your request. Requesting via your Practitioner directly is not guaranteed to reach admin. Please keep this in mind. All “no show” appointments will garner a 25 to 30% cancellation fee, usually paid as a reservation deposit. Just contact us to reschedule with at least 24 hours notice. If it’s an emergency, contact us anyway. We’re not that scary.

    2. Refunds — When presenting our metaphysical services and products, we’ve done our best to ensure we accurately represent our services, service providers, practitioners, and products, and their potential to aid your progress on your spiritual path. You are the master of your own growth, however, and whereas we will offer the best assistance we can and will make every effort to exceed your expectations, you are fully responsible for your progress, and the quality of the results will depend on the quality of your own work. We offer no warranties or guarantees regarding your results. By purchasing this service or product, you understand that the results experienced by each person may significantly vary. Any statements outlined on our web pages, or in our programs, content, or offerings are simply the opinions of the individual or collective, and thus are not guarantees or promises of actual proof; if we could prove the existence of any metaphysical being, place, or event, we’d collect from The Amazing Randi. We offer no professional legal, medical, psychological, or financial advice and your participation in this program will not treat, diagnose, or cure any disease.

Guidelines and Rules for Channeling Familiar Spirits

Our goals in channeling a spirit for you are to bring you closer to that spirit so you can communicate on your own and to teach you the skills to do that. We have no desire and no intention to be your medium forever. You should always be working to improve your subtle senses and connection.

You should enter into this working relationship with one of our practitioners, as your medium or channeler, with the intent of learning how to utilize the spirit/human relationship to further your personal growth. If all you want is to chitchat with your spirit companion, there are hundreds of “psychic mediums” all over the world who are just waiting for you to ask. They’ll take considerably more of your money than we will, and will never teach you the skills to graduate from their service.

Everyone can learn to perceive. It’s maybe not as exciting as, and is considerably more work than, having someone else channel for you for the rest of your relationship or life. But it’s possible, if you really want to make the most of your connection with that spirit.

    The Actual Rules:

    1. When you speak to your spirit companion via a channeler, this is not the time for trivial or pointless questions. Spend this time getting clear guidance, so you can learn to hear clearly enough to share trivia on your own time. Therefore, if you digress too far, we will pull your focus back. Only limited, in context trivia is acceptable.

    2. Questions you already know the answers to are not allowed. You may confirm something you are really uncertain about, but if you think you know and you’re just looking for confirmation or validation, this is not okay. Your spirit companion will provide validation in his own way and on his own timetable. If we allowed these questions, you would eventually get a “wrong” answer. Even if 19 out of 20 were answered correctly, that single wrong answer would plague on your mind and create problems.

    3. No medical questions. We are not doctors, and we could be held liable if you harm yourself based on medical advice we provided, even if we are just the medium. Regardless of whether this information comes from a spirit or not, we are the physical presence that conveyed the advice. We will, from now on, shut a spirit down who tries to give medical information. He can give that information directly to you, and your choice to act is your own responsibility. Always seek professional medical advice for any health issues, including for your pets.

    4. Loaded questions are verboten. No questions with only single correct answers (e.g. “What’s the square root of pi?”). No fishing for a certain answer. No questions with an agenda. Be direct with what you want to know, but don’t set out to test the spirit via the medium. If you want to test your spirit or give him an ultimatum, that’s between you and him and has nothing to do with us. Take it outside — outside our relationship with you. (See also #2.)

    5. If you wish to ask a question that stretches the limits of the channeling process, other arrangements can be made, such as a tarot, rune, or coin reading, to clarify the situation. The coins can provide a quick-and-dirty answer, and they can also slap you down for asking a stupid question. This is called a doom*. (A friend of mine came up with that term; I think it’s appropriate.) Once you draw a doom, the reading is over. The cards can provide a more detailed answer, but may also shut you down and provide a doom if you try to milk them for more and more information.

    6. At any time that you push the limits or insist upon material proof of something from the channeler, your reading is over. This is also a doom*. The subtle senses are called “subtle” for a very good reason — much of communication with spirits rests on the interpretation of the medium. Every medium has his or her own personal filters that color the message. This is why there are subtle differences in the way each medium interprets a message from a spirit. Anything that is utterly unfamiliar to the medium cannot be conveyed well. For example, if I am channeling a spirit who was a sword-maker, I am not automatically going to know the terms for different varieties of sword or for the various steps of the creative process, though I may be able to describe them with terminology that is already familiar to me.

Another example: if a spirit knows martial arts (I do not) and wants to reference a weapon or move that I don’t have the vocabulary for, I can only describe what I pick up via images. I cannot provide a name for that weapon or move. So if your spirit companion sends a message and I am unable to convey the answer you are looking for, it is up to you to fill in the blanks that might occur due to my lack of immediate knowledge of a situation. A reader can tell you your situation only to the degree that the information is available and readily interpretable. If a card reader sees that you’re sick, they can tell you that but can’t say, “You’ve got strep throat,” or “You’ve got cancer.” That’s up to a doctor. A reader is a guide. The rest is up to you.

We can try to guide you to rephrase or to completely rework your question in a way that it can be asked. The spirit can try to guide you. But it’s important to understand that these rules exist not only to protect the medium from a constant barrage of test questions — they also exist to protect you from disappointment. No one is going to be 100% accurate 100% of the time, and eventually something would upset you. If you don’t want to set yourself up or taint your own reading, don’t ask these questions.

    * A doom, which ends the reading, means the reading is over. Finito. No refunds, no exchanges, no clarification, no sweet hugs goodbye. Be very careful with this, therefore. It’s all in your hands.
