Submission and Release Calendar

These are the new dates for the submission deadlines and issue release, and they’ll remain the same every year. We are not yet as strict as they indicate but we’re trying to make adjustments to these dates to allow for a consistent schedule offering a new issue roughly every six weeks, while as editors we hope to get to the point where we’re accepting content an issue ahead. As is stands now, we’ll take content up until ten days before the official issue release date (so November 20 for the Yule issue, etc), and the issues will be released within a week of the stated dates below, barring unforeseen complications.

Themes indicate what is appropriate for the season but by no means do they limit the content for that issue. Feel free to make suggestions to add to themes. Issues are never limited to thematic material. Send all submissions to submissions@rendingtheveil.com.

Submission Guidelines

The submission guidelines are simple. Submit in .doc (preferred) or .rtf format with formatting intact (e.g words in italics will be italicized in the final article). Minimum of 1000 words per article or fiction piece, no maximum, though anything over 4000 words should be published in sections or chapters over a series of issues. Cite all references. Run your submission through a spellcheck, and be open to the concept of having your work edited (it will be returned for you to review any needed edits before we publish it). Don’t use arbitrary capitalization without explaining why. We accept nonfiction, fiction, poetry, traditional art, graphic art, photography, interviews, debate pieces (if an opposing view can be found), editorial content, and reviews.

Reviews must be at least 500 words and are not limited to books. They can be on anything that our readers would be interested in, from books to cds, dvds, websites, movies, concerts, conventions, etc. Include all pertinent information, e.g. ISBN, title, author/artist, and so forth, and you should also include a 1-5 star rating (half stars are acceptable).

Illustration of any piece is acceptable, just indicate in your submission where you’d like the image to appear. Make sure all images are at least 500 px on each side, unless a small icon sized image is appropriate. When submitting all content, include your byline (name you want to be published under), a valid email address, your RTV username, and if possible, a 100 x 100 avatar or personal icon (no animation, please).

Samhain

Submission deadline is 15 September. Deadline for final revisions is 5 October.

The Samhain issue will premiere 15 October.

Suggested Themes: Harvest, prosperity, spirit communications, the thinning of the veil, with more emphasis on ghosts, spirits, spooky tales, subtle realm work, dreamwalking, et al.

Yule

Submission deadline is 30 October. Deadline for final revisions is 20 November.

The Yule issue will premiere 30 November.

Suggested Themes: Dark magick, Goetia, evocation, internal work, et al.

Imbolc

Submission deadline is 15 December. Deadline for final revisions is 5 January.

The Imbolc issue will premiere 15 January.

Suggested Themes: Dark magick, Goetia, evocation, internal work, first return of the light, et al.

Ostara

Submission deadline is 30 January. Deadline for final revisions is 18 February.

The Ostara issue will premiere 28 February.

Suggested Themes: Return of the light, new growth, beginnings, spring, planting of “seeds,” fertility, sex magick, et al.

Beltane

Submission deadline is 15 March. Deadline for final revisions is 5 April.

The Beltane issue will premiere 15 April.

Midsummer

Submission deadline is 30 April. Deadline for final revisions is 20 May.

The Midsummer issue will premiere 30 May.

Lughnasadh

Submission deadline is 15 June. Deadline for final revisions is 5 July.

The Lughnasadh issue will premiere 15 July.

Mabon
